Since she was a child, Chia-Chia Feng has always been alert to beautiful things. Art is a treasure and there is always something new to be discovered. She comes from Taiwan, and she understands western and eastern art. She is also bilingual (Mandarin and English). She is a talented and well-trained artist and always treats herself doing her artworks as high quality as professional, and she has developed interests in various art-related fields.
Chia-Chia Feng is deeply interesting by the special effects make-up in Hollywood movies and plans to explore this fascinating field further. Film make-up creates amazing effects by transforming a person: making him/her older or younger, more beautiful or ugly. Monstrous features are also impressive. One can bring to life the wildest images by designing these characters. This process is simply irresistible to her. She is good at human body sketching, sculpturing and 3 dimensional computer graphics, and want to explore her potentials in special effects make-up and to create all kinds of characters.
Chia-Chia had solid professional training in fine arts back in high school. Sculpturing is one of her strongest subjects and interests. Precision is the key and she can handle it well. The high quality pieces she made earned her various awards both on campus and outside the school. She graduated top of her class and received the County Magistrate Award. Later in college, she brought together her drawing technique and aesthetic sensibilities through technology such as 3 dimensional computer graphics and computers. What she loves most, however, is to create with her own hands. She is firmly convinced that manually created art can express her humanity and vitality most faithfully. These interests have helped her immensely in laying the foundation for the next phase in her life.
Five years of hard work at a local television shopping channel made her an assistant director, a field director, and eventually the youngest program director in the company’s history. This was an important turning point in her life. In the almost war-like live broadcasting world, it is essential to prepare every element in a very short time and to handle all the details with precision. She has to know her crew members well and bring out all their potential so that they may produce a show of the highest quality.
With her of experience in television show production, she has mastered the art of stage directing. She understands well that the balance between shooting angle, stage arrangement, and personages can maximize the make-up effect. When designing a character, she also understands the importance of the relation between a character’s appearance, the layout of the stage and the main focus of the show. She knows how to make characters look perfect in front of the lens.
In 2015, Chia-Chia Feng won the USITT Makeup Design Award, sponsored by Kryolan Professional Make-up, and got her MFA degree in wig and makeup design program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She hopes she will be able to help produce higher quality movies, television shows, and stage performances in the future.
